SUBJECT: First-Generation College Student Celebration
Tomorrow, in honor of the 52nd anniversary of the Higher Education Act, institutions around the country are celebrating the presence and experiences of first-generation college students, faculty, and staff. Many of you may be first-generation college students and your story would undoubtedly be of interest to our students. On that day, we invite all members of our campus communities to wear apparel from their alma mater to highlight, celebrate and encourage our first-generation college students. The wearing of the apparel may help to engage in a conversation in which you share your own college experience as a discussion starter.
While being a first-generation college student is a real accomplishment, it is often fraught with challenges. We have a number of tips and resources to facilitate student success. Many of these resources were highlighted last week as we encouraged all students to Finish Strong. Please refer to this website for additional details: https://www3.sunysuffolk.edu/finishstrong
To be an active part of First-Generation College Celebration tomorrow and beyond, please use #celebratefirstgen in your social media posts so the festivities can become a national event!
Thank you for all you do for our students.
