African Peoples Association Scholarship

Awarded to: Full-time or Part-time students: $150 (1 award)

Criteria:
1. African-American student
2. 3.0 GPA for 12 credits

Must be a Grant Campus student with documented service to campus

Empire State Diversity Honors Scholarship Program

Awarded to:   Full-time or Part-time students:  Varies from $200 to full tuition (20-25 awards)
Criteria:   1. Student will make a contribution to the diversity of the student body in their program, primarily by overcoming a disadvantage or other impediment to success in higher education. Financial need and economic disadvantage is a diversity indicator. Other indicators include physical or other disability, first generation college student status and non-English speaking background, and membership in a racial/ethnic group that is underrepresented in the program or school.
2. High school average of 80 or better
3. 200-word essay explaining education and career goals
4. Must file for financial aid
5. Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident aliens and must be a NYS resident
Renewal:   Full-time scholarships are renewable provided the student maintains a cumulative average of 3.0
Deadline:   For priority consideration, please submit this application and all supporting documents by March 18.

J. Robert Fisher Diversity Scholarships

Awarded to:   Full-time students:  $1000 per semester (3-4 awards)
Part-time students:  $500 per semester (3-4 awards)
Criteria:   1. Previous academic performance or potential
2. Extracurricular activities and community service
3. An essay describing the applicant’s educational goals
4. Three professional letters of recommendation
5. An interview may be required
6. Ethnic minority
Renewal:   Both full-time and part-time scholarships are renewable for four semesters provided the student maintains a 2.8 GPA. Part-time students must enroll for a minimum of six credits each semester.
Deadline:   For priority consideration, please submit application and all supporting documents by March 18.

Get There From Here

Awarded to:   Full-time or Part-time students:  up to $5,000 per year (multiple awards)
Criteria:   1. Completion of scholarship application (For complete eligibility details and the scholarship application form, visit http://www.sunysuffolk.edu and click on the Get There From Here Scholarship link)
2. Must demonstrate the ability to successfully complete college-level work. This must be demonstrated by official high school transcript, SAT or ACT scores, or appropriate scores on the College Placement Test (CPT) taken after admission to the College
3. One professional letter of recommendation
4. One personal letter of recommendation
5. Two academic letters of recommendation
6. Must be eligible to receive federal financial aid and have filed a FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid)
7. Typewritten essay of no more than two pages double spaced. The essay should include evidence of leadership and community service, persistence and career goals
8. Check the College web site for additional information regarding scholar expectations.
Renewal:   The scholarship may be renewed for a maximum of five semesters provided the student maintains a cumulative 3.0 GPA.
Deadline:   For priority consideration, please submit application and all supporting documents by May 22.

Mildred Green

Awarded to:   Full-time students:  $475 (1 award)
Criteria:   1. Minority student
2. Ammerman Campus student
3. 3.0 GPA for 12 credits from SCCC
4. One-page essay describing your future goals and how this scholarship will help you attain them
5. List of extracurricular activities including community service and leadership positions held
6. Continuing student at SCCC in the fall
7. Must fill out and return application available in the Office of Campus Activities and Student Leadership Development
Deadline:   April 15

Thurgood Marshall/Rosa Parks Leadership

Awarded to:   Full-time or Part-time students:  $250 (1 award)
Criteria:   1. African-American or Latino-Hispanic descent
2. Must be an active member of the African-American Student Union
3. 2.8 GPA for 24 credits from SCCC
4. Ammerman Campus student
5. 250 word essay about your future goals
6. Community service
7. List of extracurricular activities, i.e. clubs, publications, etc.
8. Must fill out and return application available in the Office of Campus Activities and Student Leadership Development
9. Need not attend SCCC in subsequent semester
